Minutes of the Kitimat Snowmobile and Hiker Club

Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2015 @ 19:30; Hirsh Creek Golf and Curling Club

Present:

24 in attendance.

Treasurer Report: Starting balance $13,526.41. Several credits and debits were reviewed. Closing balance currently $11,377.82. Robinson Ridge cabin budget has a remaining balance of $3000.00. Some construction costs pending.

Memberships:

Current paid membership stands at 44.

Correspondence:

Hylands Backcountry Safety is offering a two day avalanche safety course at Riverlodge and the Clague cabin site, January 31 and February 1. Information at Riverlodge, (250) 632 8970.

Old Business:

December 15 Council meeting was given a cabin progress update. Much praise received for the project.

AGM election. New Vice-President is Corey Eisenberger. Other personnel remain the same.

Signage; two new avalanche info kiosks at trailheads from Avalanche Canada; risk ratings given. Sign for Northern Development contribution to club will be at corner of Highway 37 and PNG site.

Avalanche Gear. Available from Trevor (local) and also Avalanche Safety Solutions in Golden.

Firewood donation available at DCH for delivery to the cabins.

Robinson cabin requires construction of lighting and railings.

All members of the club receive membership in the BCSF. Membership includes liability insurance and discounts for trail passes at other club sites.

New Business:

Source for beacon checkers has been found. Will arrive at the end of the month and positioned at trailheads. Cost for checkers will be approximately $500.00 each.

December 2, 2014

Treasurer Report:

Reviewed financials to November month end. Currently 38 paid members. Reviewed Robinson Ridge cabin costs to date and Grant Balances. Club balance standing at $13,526.41

Correspondence:

BC Registry Services remittance of Society Annual Report.

Old Business:

Signage; replace existing signs on Clague and install new for Robinson. Canadian Avalanche Centre signage for cabins and trail heads. (MoF providing Kiosks for trail heads.)

Safety; avalanche gear at Avalanche Safety Solutions. First Aid and Response Gear KFD members to champion.

Clague Cabin Maintenance; floor treatment to be completed, wood stove tiling needs to be redone, and firewood kept on hand.

Firewood Donation; to be moved to cabins.

Robinson Cabin; nearly 1000 manhours to date; at lockup stage and ready to use. Details to complete include lighting.

Regional Winter Expo; invite for Saturday, November 8 declined for lack of volunteers.

BCSF; permit Application comes with membership purchase; decal to be provided; cost is $26.00 per member and $10.00 for non-riders.

Memberships; a way to quantify benefit of new cabin; remind those who typically have not paid in the past; new passes are available at club meetings, Tamitik, and Riverlodge.

Club email and contact list: considered valuable information. Request this with each membership.

New Business:

Trail maintenance

Robinson cabin project; presentation to council on December 15.

Additional funding opportunities; LNGC and RTA; application process to be reviewed and applications made for additional infrastructure (e.g. outhouse for Robinson).

Yellow Groomer; sold for $500.00 to past member.

Meeting Location; discussion to return to golf course or remain at Rosario’s.

2014/2015 Executive Election results; Recording Secretary, John Eckstein; Treasurer, James Gairdner; Vice President, Corey Eisenberger; President, Chad Fournier.
